Features
Broad Boot Compatibility:
Designed for versatility, the HY 13 Free is compatible with most modern alpine (ISO 5355), ski mountaineering (ISO 9523), and freeride boots. To ensure optimal safety and performance across different sole types, the Anti Friction Device (AFD) slider on the toe piece requires precise adjustment. ATK achieves this with specific spacers placed between the AFD slider and its base structure, allowing you to perfectly match the binding contact to your boot sole's thickness for reliable release and power transmission.
Intuitive Toe Piece
- Elastic Travel: Features a significant 18mm of elastic travel on each side, providing excellent shock absorption and reliable boot retention during dynamic skiing.
Powerful Heel Unit
- Alpine-Inspired Clamps: The heel clamping mechanism takes inspiration from alpine bindings, delivering a spectacular sense of control, precision, and direct power transfer to the ski.
- Hy Brake System: This intelligent rear ski brake automatically locks when the heel piece is engaged in walk mode (activated by pressing the rear paddle after pushing the lever forward). When transitioning back to ski mode, simply push the rear lever backward, and the brake seamlessly unlocks – ensuring hassle-free operation.
- Heel Elastic Travel: Provides 7mm of elastic travel for consistent release values and enhanced shock absorption.
Effortless Touring Functionality
- Seamless Transitions: Switching between ascent and descent modes is incredibly simple and intuitive. Lift the toe lever arms for walking; rotate them forward and lock them down for skiing. The reliable design works flawlessly in all conditions without needing interchangeable parts.
- Three Versatile Walking Modes: Optimize your uphill efficiency with three distinct climbing aids, all easily activated with your ski pole:
- Negative Walk Mode (-18mm): A unique ATK feature allowing the boot heel to drop slightly below the toe level (-1.0°). This significantly reduces strain and improves natural stride efficiency, especially beneficial when using stiffer freeride boots or traversing long, flat sections.
- Low Riser (+10mm): For moderate inclines (+0.6°).
- High Riser (+34mm): Provides maximum lift (+1.9°) for tackling steeper terrain.
Additional Details
- Flat Skiing Position: In ski mode, the binding allows the boot to sit perfectly flat (0°) on the ski. This eliminates the common forward ramp angle found in many tech bindings, delivering an alpine-like feel and maximizing downhill performance and control.
- Boot Sole Length Adjustment: Offers a generous 25mm range for accommodating different boot sizes or quiver sharing.
