The Blaze 104 is a light, agile powder ski that is constructed with maneuverability in mind. The thin Titanal Binding Platform underfoot harnesses power with little effort, creating an incredibly enjoyable and dynamic turning experience, immediately from initiation. In narrow terrain and/or rough conditions their reaction time is impressive, especially for a powder-width ski. Their full length Hybrid Multilayer Woodcore / Green Core and overall design target short-turn-oriented skiers, but the sidecut’s 4 radius drive sidecut technology adapts to most every riding style. In addition to ripping around the resort, the Blaze 104’s also transition into capable freeride touring skis because of their lightweight, yet powerful nature. With the addition of the Suspension Tip, a rubbery, shock-absorbing material on the tip and tail edges, the Blaze 104 rides high through pow, crud and wind buffed snow with playful power.
Construction & Technology
- Compared to classic glass constructions the three-dimensional and multiple-folded glass layers in the tip and in the tail area result in an increased edge grip and a more vivid rebound behavior in turns. 1 3D.GLASS IS INTEGRATED IN THE TIP AND TAIL OF THE SKI // flat glass under the binding making the center softer // variable turning at any speed 2 GLASS ABOVE THE SIDEWALL //providing additional support for superior edge grip on icy slopes 3 VERTICAL GLASS IN TIP & TAIL AREA //more pop for faster edge to edge changes
- A sintered high-density and high molecular polyethylene base with great gliding characteristics and high durability
- A particularly light and complex wood core specially developed for touring skis. In the area around the steel edges, a poplar wood hand-picked by weight provides the necessary stability, while in the center of the ski, the soft and light Paulownia wood ensures the ski's flexibility. In the binding area beech wood provides the strength, which is needed to hold the screws of the binding. In the center of the core, a CNC-milled Isocore area contributes to optimal liveliness and dynamic development. Only the lightest batch of each wood delivery makes it into these cores.
Profile & Shape
- 4 Radius Rive, a Völkl innovation not yet offered by any other manufacturer. With this technology, Völkl sets a new benchmark for the ability to vary the turn radius and combine easy handling with rock-solid stability. This new design provides maximum versatility for various snow conditions both on piste and off piste, increased stability on hard surfaces, and improved performance on soft snow.
- Radius 1: Approx. 20 m in the frontmost 10 centimeters. A tighter radius only in the shovel to achieve a more immediate response to the skier‘s initial edge movement; maximum precision and agility
- Radius 2: Approx. 40 m in the area between the shovel and the binding. The open radius in the front part of the ski gives the ski more resistance to disturbances and stability at speed
- Radius 3: Approx. 15 m in the area under the binding. The tight radius in the camber area provides the ski with more agility even with slight edge movements of the skier, ensuring the necessary buildup of dynamics for short turns and radical carving curves.
- Radius 4: Approx. 25 meters in the area behind the binding up to the ski end. The moderate radius at the ski end ensures controlled and situation-adapted dynamics at the end of the turn and provides optimal support for transitioning into the next curve.
