Its longitudinal stiffness offers a consistent contribution to the flex profile, while its shear and compressive strength allow the composite layers to properly carry the dynamic loads when the ski bends, and its natural damping properties smooth out the chatter. Poplar is nearly ideal as a ski core material when downhill performance is the top priority.
